What's in a name?
I was reading about the mess the Indian government are making of the commonwealth games in the Telegraph and was mildly amused to read the name of the minister responsible,"Sheila Dikshit"
I assure you I have not made this up.

New airfield on the prairie
Ed the duck is practising flying on the field to the south, He is getting up to about 30ft and over 100 yards in length. He was down near the dyke but didn't venture in for a swim.
It can only be a matter of time though, not sure what his companions think about it all, maybe they are a little jealous.

Rainy night in Lincolnshire
Woke up to a rainy day,not something we have done much this summer,Ed the duck is enjoying it though and has now metamorphosed into a real mallard male complete with colouring, our neighbour farmer Joe has three ducks on his pond and I am trying to work out a plan to get Ed up there as I think he would like it.
Shot a rat two days ago from 20 yards, bowled it over and then put two more slugs into it to make sure, they are scrounging around now as the wheat has just been cut and leaves them little cover, not my favourite animals I have to say.
I did have the idea of shooting pheasants, hares, rabbits etc. for the pot when I first moved here but I seem to have gone soft and can't bring myself to do it,though I can think of one blond "lady" who I might not be averse to finishing of.
We have jam coming out of our lugholes at the moment as the thought of all the local fruit going to waste has set La Signora off on a burst of jam making activity ,in spite of having decided to cease with the pursuit and rejecting offers of empty jars.

Big Sky
Back in sunny Lincolnshire to the sound of harvesting till 10pm last night ,but nice to see the big skies again after being in a town, though we had a nice time in Preston and I even managed to do some digging on the allotment,Gina has now planted her garlic for next july harvesting.
Ed the duck is doing a lot of short flights about a yard off the ground and I think may be off on an extended flight any time now,we have a lot of canada geese flying into the field opposite at night, and some ducks came over last night,so Ed may opt for joining them soon.
